SALONKEE has been awarded Best Workplaces™ Luxembourg 2024 (N°5 - Category Medium Companies).
We met Sofia LEZCANO, HR & People Operations, and discover how they create a great workplace culture with and for their employees.
Which HR practice is the most appreciated by your employees?
Our company culture is already very strong and it was not crafted by HR but we do make it our mission to inform and facilitate on all matters which surround our company culture.
All of the tasks, initiatives and communication we have keep our company culture at its core.
Each one of these points, from excellence in service to helping keep the company asshole-free, is at the centre of our day-to-day interactions as well as long-term planning. Also, hands-down, the top preferred aspect of our office environment is our many fluffy colleagues – the office dogs!

Please give an example of how one of your values has been put into practice on a daily basis?
Ambition and excellence in service within the HR team is strongly felt.
With every minute spent during the day, we pour ourselves into being as outstanding as possible in each interaction.
Whether it’s welcoming our new joiners every month or explaining the intricacies of payslips to our colleagues, we’re aware that we must be performing at our best in order for others to be able to do the same.
What do you do to build employee loyalty?
Employee loyalty is built through employer loyalty – is in, an employer being true to their values.
From the moment values are left aside, frustration is created since we hire for both skills as well as fit.
We strive to keep the company culture ‘fit’ aligned throughout, slowly reinforcing the reasons why our colleagues join us and building on top of them.
What soft skills do you look for the most in your candidates?
Adaptability and flexibility. We are a scale-up where things happen fast and we need to be able to think on our feet and adapt at the same speed.
Our procedures, teams and processes are in a state of constant evolutions.
If a candidate has the right skills and is able to react quickly within a fast-paced environment, that’s something which will make them stand out immediately
What do you offer to your employees to differentiate yourself from the competition and make yourself more attractive to future employees?
We can offer a proven track record for growth. In the past, our potential and ambition was what differentiated us from other employers, now we also have a few years under our belts.
This means that as well as that ‘challenge’ mindset, we now have proven success to show for the way that we work.
This mix of ‘it’s a challenge, but it’s doable’ attracts the right kind of talent and sets us apart from other places of work where this fast-paced and exciting growth is possibly not present or not realised.
